At a glance

Pinwork can stay visible where you already look: Home Screen, Lock Screen, desktop widgets, Dynamic Island, Apple Watch, and the Mac menu bar.

Some glanceable surfaces are view-only. Others can complete tasks, reopen tasks, or open Pinwork to the right place.

The Task Progress widget shows today’s progress and, in larger sizes, today’s top tasks.

On iPhone and iPad, supported families include:

  • system small
  • system medium
  • system large
  • system extra large
  • accessory circular
  • accessory rectangular
  • accessory inline

On Mac, supported families include:

  • system small
  • system medium
  • system large
  • system extra large

Small and accessory layouts focus on progress or a short summary. Medium and larger layouts can show task rows.

The widget can show overdue state, scheduled time, Deadline time, and today’s progress.

The widget is based on Today.

It counts today’s tasks, including completed tasks for progress. For display rows, it shows active incomplete tasks and can briefly keep one recently completed task visible for confirmation.

The widget keeps a compact shared snapshot, so it may trim rows to stay within the widget data limit.

If Lock Screen title redaction is enabled, task titles can be hidden on Lock Screen surfaces.

Medium and larger Task Progress widgets can complete or reopen tasks from the widget row checkbox.

Interactive widget actions require:

  • Pro access
  • the Interactive Widgets setting, which is on by default

The widget process does not edit the main task database directly. It updates its own snapshot optimistically, queues the action, and asks the main app to apply the real change later.

If access is locked, the main app drops pending widget mutations and refreshes the widget data.

Widget actions do not provide the normal in-app undo stack. While a completed row remains visible, the widget can show an uncomplete button.

Some Task Progress widget layouts can show a plus button.

The plus button opens Pinwork to add a task for today. It does not create the task directly inside the widget.

The plus button is controlled by the Show Quick Add Button setting and is disabled when interactive widgets are disabled.

Pinwork includes iOS controls for:

  • Quick Add
  • Today
  • Inbox
  • Upcoming

These controls can appear in Control Center, Lock Screen controls, and Action Button flows where the system supports Control widgets.

They open Pinwork to the selected destination. They do not create tasks directly.

On iPhone, use accessory-size widgets on the Lock Screen for quick progress and summary views.

If you do not want task titles visible on the Lock Screen, enable title redaction in Pinwork settings.

When a focus session is active, Pinwork can show a Live Activity on:

  • Dynamic Island
  • Lock Screen
  • Apple Watch Smart Stack

The Live Activity can show focus timer state outside the app. Expanded Dynamic Island and Lock Screen controls can pause, resume, and complete the focus session.

Completing from the Live Activity writes pending completion state for the main app to finish the task. Tapping non-button areas opens the focus session in Pinwork.

Live Activity controls do not provide a separate undo control. Task completion uses the normal focus-session completion path in the main app.

Enable the Pinwork menu bar item on Mac to use Pinwork without opening the main window.

The menu bar panel can show:

  • Quick Add
  • up to five visible Today tasks
  • up to five visible Inbox tasks
  • overflow links
  • navigation shortcuts
  • open and quit controls

Today task visibility follows your completion behavior setting. Inbox always hides completed tasks in the menu bar.

Rows can complete or reopen tasks, and navigation buttons can open Today, Inbox, Projects, or All Tasks in the app.

In read-only mode, menu bar mutations open the access screen instead of changing tasks.

Apple Watch complications and Smart Stack surfaces show Watch-side task state.

Supported complication families include:

  • circular
  • rectangular
  • inline
  • corner

They can show remaining count, completed count, progress, and next task where space allows.

Watch complications read from the Watch app’s local store, not the iPhone widget snapshot. They refresh periodically and when Watch-visible Today data changes.

  • Apple Watch: the full Watch app, capture, sync, and task actions.
  • Capturing tasks: every way to add a task.
  • Automation: Shortcuts, deep links, AppleScript, command palette, and Focus Filters.
