Keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts are available on Mac and on iPad with a hardware keyboard. This page lists the public shortcut reference for navigation, task work, scheduling, windows, review, and date pickers.

Some shortcuts need a focused task. If no task is selected, or if the task list is not focused, the shortcut may do nothing.

  • Command-N: create a new task.
  • Command-K: open the command palette.
  • Command-F: open search.
  • Command-,: open Settings.
  • Command-1: go to Today.
  • Command-2: go to Upcoming.
  • Command-3: go to Inbox.
  • Command-4: go to Projects.
  • Command-5: go to All Tasks.
  • Command-6: go to Archive.

Use the command palette if you forget a navigation shortcut. It includes the same primary destinations.

These shortcuts work when a task list has focus.

  • Down Arrow: move to the next task.
  • Up Arrow: move to the previous task.
  • Command-A: select all tasks in the current list when multi-select is active or supported by the current view.
  • Escape: cancel the current selection, dismiss an open surface, or leave the current transient state when the current view supports it.
  • Space: cycle status between Not Started, In Progress, and Waiting.
  • Command-Return: mark the task as Done.
  • I: mark the task as In Progress.
  • U: mark the task as Not Started.
  • W: mark the task as Waiting. This requires GTD mode.
  • S: mark the task as Someday/Maybe. This requires GTD mode.
  • X: mark the task as Canceled.

Done, Canceled, and Someday/Maybe tasks may disable some status actions because those states are terminal in parts of the interface.

Use these when a task is focused in the list.

  • T: defer to Today.
  • R: defer to Tomorrow.
  • A: defer to This Afternoon.
  • E: defer to This Evening.
  • M: defer to Tomorrow Morning.
  • P: defer to Tomorrow Afternoon.
  • B: defer to the next business day.
  • N: defer to next Monday.
  • Z: snooze the task.
  • .: clear the task schedule.

Scheduling shortcuts use the same task action paths as the matching buttons and menus, so undo and access checks follow the normal task behavior.

These shortcuts edit or remove the focused task.

  • Command-E: edit the task.
  • Command-D: duplicate the task.
  • Command-L: copy the task link.
  • Delete: delete the task.
  • Control-Delete: delete the task.
  • Command-Delete: delete the task.

Delete shortcuts do not run while you are editing text. If access is locked, shortcuts that would change task data open the access screen instead of changing the task.

  • Control-Command-S: show or hide the sidebar.
  • Command-R: refresh.
  • Command-Z: undo.
  • Shift-Command-Z: redo.
  • Escape: cancel, close, or dismiss the active surface when supported.

On Mac and supported iPad window surfaces:

  • Command-O: open the selected task in a new window.
  • Shift-Command-O: open the selected project in a new window.
  • Option-Shift-Command-O: open the selected tag in a new window on Mac.

These shortcuts work inside the When and Deadline picker when the picker or calendar area has focus.

  • D: choose Today.
  • R: choose Tomorrow.
  • W: choose Next Week.
  • M: choose Morning.
  • T: choose Morning. This is a legacy alias.
  • A: choose Afternoon.
  • E: choose Evening in the When picker, or End of Day in the Deadline picker.
  • Command-Return: apply the picker value.
  • Escape: close the picker.

If the inline chip text field is focused, letter shortcuts are paused so you can type a date or time manually.

On Mac, the Review page supports keyboard navigation between review steps.

  • Command-[: go to the previous review step.
  • Command-]: go to the next review step.

Pinwork can register a global Mac shortcut for quick entry.

  • Control-Option-Space: open quick entry from outside Pinwork.

This shortcut works only when Global Quick Entry Shortcut is enabled in Settings. If macOS or another app owns the same combination, the shortcut may not register.

Press Command-K to open the command palette.

The command palette can run navigation and app commands such as New Task, Search, Toggle Sidebar, Today, Upcoming, Inbox, Projects, All Tasks, Archive, Settings, Refresh, and supported window commands.

Task-specific rows can appear as reference rows because they need a focused task selected first.

Pinwork includes a Keyboard Shortcuts page in Settings. Use it as the in-app reference for the exact shortcuts available in the current build.

Check whether:

  • you are on Mac or using a hardware keyboard on iPad
  • a text field, search field, checklist item, or modal dialog is currently active
  • the task list is focused
  • a task is selected
  • GTD mode is enabled for Waiting and Someday/Maybe shortcuts
  • access is locked
  • another app or macOS shortcut is using the same key combination
