Sync is not updating

Use this page when tasks, projects, tags, or settings do not match across devices yet.

Most sync delays are caused by iCloud timing, account state, network state, or a device that has not opened Pinwork recently.

Make sure each device is signed in to iCloud with the Apple ID you expect.

Also check:

  • iCloud Drive is available
  • the device has network access
  • Low Power Mode is not preventing background activity for long periods
  • iCloud storage is not full
  • Date and Time are set correctly in system settings

Pinwork uses Apple’s iCloud infrastructure. If iCloud is signed out, unavailable, out of quota, rate limited, or not authenticated, sync can pause.

Open Pinwork Settings and use Check Sync Status.

This can refresh Pinwork’s visible sync state, save pending local changes, and reload data that has already arrived from iCloud.

It cannot force iCloud to download records instantly.

If you just installed Pinwork on a new device or made many changes on another device, leave Pinwork open for a short while on both devices.

Then:

  1. Open Pinwork on the device that has the newest data.
  2. Open Pinwork on the device that is behind.
  3. Run Check Sync Status on the device that is behind.
  4. Wait a few minutes with both devices connected to the network.

CloudKit imports can arrive in batches. A device may show some changes before all changes are visible.

If the app appears stuck:

  1. Quit Pinwork on the device that is behind.
  2. Reopen Pinwork.
  3. Open Settings.
  4. Run Check Sync Status again.

On Mac, make sure the main app is restarted, not only a menu bar window.

Different surfaces refresh in different ways.

If the main app is current but another surface looks stale, use the feature-specific guide:

Widgets and extensions use lightweight shared snapshots, so they can lag behind the main app.

The Watch depends on the companion iPhone for task and access state.

Try this order:

  1. Open Pinwork on iPhone.
  2. Confirm the iPhone has the expected tasks.
  3. Keep the iPhone nearby and unlocked.
  4. Open Pinwork on Apple Watch.
  5. Wait for the Watch list to update.

If iPhone itself is behind, fix iPhone sync first.

Pinwork does not show a manual conflict screen.

If the same task was changed on multiple devices before sync finished, the final merged task may not match what you expected.

Open the task on the device showing the current data and edit it again. Use Undo where available if the change happened locally and is still undoable.

Contact support if:

  • the same devices stay mismatched after iCloud is available and Pinwork has been opened on both devices
  • Check Sync Status repeatedly shows Needs attention
  • a specific error message appears
  • the local database recovery screen appears
  • Apple Watch never receives access state from iPhone

Include:

  • device models
  • OS versions
  • Pinwork version and build
  • which device has the correct data
  • which device is behind
  • any visible sync status or error text

See Contact support.
