Statuses

Task status tells Pinwork whether a task is active, finished, canceled, blocked, or parked for later.

Most status changes are available from the task context menu, task card controls, keyboard shortcuts, and batch actions. Waiting and Someday/Maybe appear when GTD mode is enabled.

Not Started is the normal active state for a task that has not begun.

Reopening a completed or canceled task returns it to Not Started and clears terminal timestamps because the task is no longer finished or canceled.

Use In Progress for work you have started but not finished.

On iPhone and iPad, a leading swipe action can show In Progress unless the task is already in progress.

In Progress is still an active task status.

Done means the task is complete.

Completing a task:

  • sets the task status to Done
  • records the completion time
  • ends an active focus session for that task
  • follows your completion behavior setting
  • creates the next occurrence if the task is recurring and another occurrence is allowed

Done is a terminal status, so the task can appear in Archive.

Canceled means the task is no longer needed.

Canceled is also a terminal status, so the task can appear in Archive.

Use Canceled when you want to keep a record that the task existed but was not completed. Use Delete when you want to remove the task instead.

Waiting is available when GTD mode is enabled.

Use Waiting for tasks that are blocked by another person, system, reply, or external event.

Moving a task to Waiting:

  • sets the status to Waiting
  • clears the Next Action flag
  • hides it from Today by default
  • keeps it in the Waiting For list even if it is deferred or rescheduled

Waiting is not a terminal status.

Someday/Maybe is available when GTD mode is enabled.

Use Someday/Maybe for ideas, possible future work, or tasks you want to keep out of active planning.

Moving a task to Someday/Maybe:

  • sets the status to Someday/Maybe
  • clears the Next Action flag
  • clears the When date
  • clears calendar link metadata
  • removes recurrence
  • clears rollover state

Someday/Maybe is not a terminal status.

Done and Canceled are terminal statuses.

When you reopen one of these tasks, Pinwork sets it back to Not Started and clears completed or canceled timestamps.

Archived tasks can be restored to Inbox or Today from Archive.

Status changes are undoable where the normal task status-change path is used.

Completion also has undo support and can capture a generated next occurrence for recurring tasks.

Undo availability can differ for automation, Watch actions, or background paths.

On Apple Watch, task rows can complete or reopen tasks.

Task detail actions can include Done, Undo, In Progress, Today, Tomorrow, and Delete when access is active. Watch actions update the Watch local store and send best-effort updates to iPhone.

Watch detail actions do not provide a separate undo stack. To reverse a completion, reopen the task where available.
