Shortcuts are not creating tasks

Use this page when Siri, Shortcuts, App Intents, or Action Button workflows do not create or complete tasks as expected.

Quick Add and Complete Task App Intents require shared Pro access.

Open Pinwork and confirm access is active. If access is locked, restore purchases or choose a plan before trying the shortcut again.

Some automation actions queue work for the main app to process.

If a shortcut appeared to run but the task did not show up, open Pinwork. The app can process pending actions and refresh shared data.

Quick Add from App Intents creates the task in your default Quick Add destination:

  • Inbox
  • Today
  • Tomorrow

If the task was created but you cannot find it, check the destination setting and look in that list.

The Quick Add App Intent captures raw text.

It does not run Pinwork’s natural-language parser. For example, tomorrow #home can stay in the title instead of becoming a scheduled task with a tag.

Use pinwork://quickadd?text=... or AppleScript quick add when automation needs natural-language parsing.

The Complete Task picker uses incomplete tasks from the widget snapshot or the broader intent task index.

If a task is missing:

  • open Pinwork to refresh shared indexes
  • confirm the task is incomplete
  • search by title
  • check whether the task is archived, done, or canceled

Waiting and Someday/Maybe tasks can appear if they are incomplete.

Action Button behavior is configured in system settings.

Check which Shortcut or control the Action Button is assigned to. If needed, reassign it to the Pinwork action you want: Quick Add, Today, Inbox, or Upcoming.

Navigation shortcuts store a pending destination for Pinwork to consume.

If the app does not consume the destination quickly, the target expires. Run the shortcut again or open Pinwork directly.

Navigation shortcuts can also be ignored while first-run navigation is locked.
